HITS
- Lack of attachment points mean no cleanup required
- Great value
- Includes LaFerrari name plate

MISSES
- Rather springy due to fret thickness
- No seatbelt clasps or windshield wiper

Tamiya have produced two aftermarket items for their beautiful LaFerrari kit, one of them being a basic photo-etch fret. Designed for photo-etch beginners, the detail is nothing but and very affordable at $10 from HLJ.com.

Though it doesn’t have every minute detail we expect from aftermarket manufacturers, all its 23 pieces can be used. The fret it made up mainly of various sized grills to replace the kit decals and nylon mesh supplied in the kit. It also includes a multi-piece support for the front fan, license plate and is rounded out by a good sized name plate. A nice touch by Tamiya is the lack of anchor points between the fret and the pieces, making cleaning… well, there is no cleaning! This offering does use Tamiya’s standard nickel plated fret which is rather thick and notably springy, even after being annealed, making it tricky to apply to curved surfaces. I think it would have been nice of Tamiya to have included some seatbelt clasps and a windshield wiper.

This is not a bad way to add a bit more refinement to an already impressive kit without breaking the bank – recommended.
